Individual Psychotherapy

I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, and life transitions.

Many of the people I see are thoughtful, high-functioning, and outwardly successful, yet feel internally stuck, disconnected, or overwhelmed. My approach is warm, practical, and active and incorporates evidence-based and insight-oriented models including:

  • Relational psychotherapy

  • Trauma-focused work

  • Psychodynamic therapy

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)

  • Mindfulness and self-compassion practices

Some of my areas of focus are listed below.

Relationships and Family Dynamics

As a relational therapist, I specialize in helping clients explore patterns that come from our families of origin, relationships with ourselves, with our friends, romantic partners, siblings, parents, and children.

Over time, therapy may reveal that past trauma is playing a role in your relationships. While people may be aware of certain traumatic experiences that happened to them, trauma can also result from what didn’t happen, such as consistent attunement, safety, or the experience of being fully seen and understood.

Through therapy, we will explore what’s impacting  your sense of connection, satisfaction, and authenticity in relationships.

We may focus on:

  • Understanding how early attachment experiences shape current relationships

  • Identifying and shifting repeating relational patterns

  • Exploring sexuality, dating, and marital challenges

  • Healing the impact of emotional, physical, or sexual trauma

  • Addressing people-pleasing, overfunctioning, and difficulty setting boundaries

  • Rebuilding trust and connection after betrayal or emotional disconnection

  • Navigating relationships with aging parents and sibling dynamics

High-Achieving Professionals

I work extensively with individuals in demanding, high-performance environments, including finance, law, medicine, technology, academia, and the creative industries.

While these individuals are often highly capable, disciplined, and driven, success can come at a personal cost, manifesting as chronic anxiety, burnout, and relational strain.

Together, we work to better understand the internal pressures that sustain these patterns, differentiate ambition from over-identification with achievement, and create space for a more sustainable and meaningful way of living.

You may be experiencing:

  • High-functioning anxiety and perfectionism

  • Burnout, overwork, and difficulty slowing down

  • Career transitions, ambition, and questions of meaning or direction

  • Procrastination and cycles of avoidance and self-criticism

  • Identity concerns when self-worth is closely tied to performance

  • The psychological impact of rapid technological change, including AI

Adolescents, College Students, and Young Adults

Adolescence and early adulthood are periods of significant psychological development, including increasing independence, evolving relationships, and questions of identity and self-worth.

At the same time, these stages often involve intense academic, social, and internal pressures.

Having a space to slow down, reflect, and make sense of these experiences can be both grounding and transformative.

Some areas we may focus on are:

  • Anxiety, overthinking, and academic or social pressure

  • Relationship and intimacy concerns, including dating and friendships

  • Identity development, including gender identity and sexuality

  • Self-esteem, self-criticism, and comparison

  • Transitions related to college, graduate school, or early career paths

My office is located in Greenwich Village near NYU, making therapy easily accessible for New York City college and graduate students. I am also licensed in Connecticut and provide teletherapy in New York and Connecticut.

Perinatal, Postpartum, and Parenting Support

Becoming a parent brings a range of new emotions and concerns.

In addition to hope and joy, some expecting and new parents may experience an increase in anxiety and relationship conflict. Many parents also find that as they raise children, their own histories become more emotionally present and can impact their reactions, expectations, and ability to attune.

I support parents seeking to better understand their children, themselves, and their relationships, with the goal of creating more connected and intentional family dynamics.

This may include:

  • Addressing depression, anxiety, and OCD during the perinatal and postpartum period

  • Balancing parenting with adult relationships, professional responsibilities, and self-care

  • Understanding the impact of your own upbringing on parenting responses

  • Navigating developmental transitions, including adolescence

  • Parenting while managing anxiety, trauma history, or emotional overwhelm

  • "Working with Carrie within IFS was a crucial first step to developing self-compassion and an understanding of my inner world. I came into therapy with very little experience of emotional attunement and receiving care from anyone in my life - including other professionals. IFS and Carrie's attunement helped me overcome initial blocks I had around shame and fear to trust someone to witness my internal experience. She helped reframe parts of myself that I found challenging and that negatively impacted my life and relationships by exploring why it made sense that I developed the protection I did and how I may be able to foster the same safety in a way that was more aligned with my values."

  • “I have known Carrie for over eight years. She is warm, smart, creative, collaborative, and an extremely talented therapist and couples therapist. She also is an excellent supervisor and teacher. If you are looking for a therapist or couples therapist, I highly recommend you work with Carrie.“

  • "Working with Carrie was one of the most grounding experiences I've had in therapy…What stood out immediately was that she never had an agenda for us… She just listened and helped us understand ourselves and each other more clearly.”

    —Former Client

  • “Having Carrie there, someone who knew us both and had witnessed the full picture, gave me the space to say what I needed and mean it. She held the room in a way that made it harder for my words to get dismissed or negotiated away. That kind of support and validation changed everything for me. I'd recommend Carrie to any couple at any stage. She brings warmth, honesty, and a rare ability to make sure both people are truly heard."

    —Former Client

  • “Carrie helped me with challenges in my relationship with care for each individual and the couple as a whole. She was kind, generous, and patient while working through difficult feelings and complicated dynamics. She very much helped me understand myself and myself in a relational dynamic and working with her provided tools and insights that I'll take with me for healthier relationships throughout my life.”
